Happy Easter and New Prophet and Apostles

Happy Easter friends! I hope you are having a lovely time with your family and friends. Not only is Easter a great candy holiday (seconded only to Halloween) but it is a great time to enjoy the new Spring weather and relax. It doesn’t the stress and pressure that Christmas often has. To celebrate I recommend watching the classic film Easter Parade. I reviewed it on my channel and it was such a delight to watch. I might like it even more than White Christmas (another Irving Berlin film). The music, choreography and performances are fantastic.

The other exciting news this weekend happened at the latest LDS General Conference. Twice a year members of my church get to hear from the leadership and prophet, which is a very uplifting experience. This year is special because we have a new prophet called for the first time in many years. President Monson passed away in January and we have a new prophet President Russel M Nelson.

It was an interesting experience for me because with President Monson and Hinckley I knew they were going to be prophets. They had both been in the first presidency for years and it just seemed fated to happen. I didn’t feel that way about President Nelson even though I always loved him. He’s never been in the first presidency and I just never saw him as the obvious prophet.

So, I went to this Conference with a prayerful heart that I would get a confirmation of his calling and mantle, and I’m happy to say that I got that witness. I believe President Nelson is the man the Lord wants as our prophet, and I’m excited to see what he does in his stewardship. Already he has received revelation to make changes in priesthood councils and to retire home and visiting teaching, so it is an exciting time to be a member of the church.

We also had the very exciting news of 2 new apostles! Elder Ulisses Soares and Elder Gerrit W. Gong have been called to fill the vacancies in the Quorum of the 12 Apostles. I am very excited to hear what they have to teach me and pleased to see 2 diverse members called to serve.

Both of the new apostles spoke today and it was very moving to hear their testimonies of Jesus Christ and the humble response to their callings.

To my Mormon readers, what do you think of the new leadership and the changes/messages of General Conference?

Happy Easter!
