How to Make the Best Movie Popcorn

Of course everyone knows I love to watch movies. Going to the theater is one of my favorite past times and I usually see 2 or 3 movies there a week. However, I also love to watch movies at home and have a pretty comfortable set up with a good sound system (thanks Dad!).

Naturally when you watch a movie you want to have good snacks and so I thought it would be fun to share with you guys my recipe for making the best homemade movie popcorn! If you like this let me know and maybe I can share more snack recipes in the future.

Homemade Movie Popcorn

There are many ways to make popcorn. You can air pop it for the healthiest version and there is the microwave but stove top is definitely the best. Here is the steps.

Ingredients- Popcorn, Canola Oil, Salt, Melted Butter and various topping options

1. First you need flavorless oil like peanut or canolla oil unless you want your popcorn to taste like the oil. Then you need popcorn.

2. Spread a layer of popcorn covering the bottom of your pan. Don’t make it too thick or it will overflow over the pot and some will get burnt. Just a single layer covering the bottom. This must be a pot with a lid! I would say count on 1/4 cup of uncooked corn per person. Add a thin layer of oil so all the kernels are covered.

3. Cover and place kernels over medium high heat. Don’t peak!

4. Listen to the popping of the corn. When it slows down a little bit (about a minute of popping). Mix the popcorn and check to see the bottom kernels have popped. Then add salt

5. Add melted butter. For a large pot of popcorn I melt a stick of butter and stir it around so it coats everything

6. Now you can eat it and it is delicious or you can add toppings!

Toppings Options-

  1. Parmesan and Hot Sauce- Pretty self-explanatory use grated parm and your favorite hot sauce and mix it around.

  2. Chocolate Drizzle-You could make your own hot fudge sauce or just use Hershey’s syrup! You have to eat this quickly because it will get a little soggy. The candy melt chocolate would work amazingly well if you have it on hand.

  3. Jello-  Take any of the jello with the sugar included (not the concentrated kind) and sprinkle it on the popcorn. It makes it have a fruity candy taste. It’s kind of like a fruit flavored kettle corn

There are lots of other topping options. I love cinnamon sugar or crushed up oreos.  Whatever you can drizzle or sprinkle works great!

So that is my recipe for the best homemade movie popcorn. I hope you enjoy this recipe and let me know what you think! ๐Ÿ™‚
