Teaser Tuesdays: All the Light We Cannot See

This week’s Teaser Tuesdays is a book called All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.  I am very excited to say I am reading it for book club! My little book club is back up and running (along with my book club with Suey’s Books, which I love).  This time we are just doing it small with 3 of my best friends. Its been over a year since we last met so I’m very excited.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page.
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers.

I’ve been listening to All the Light We Cannot See.  My quote is from 4 hr 39 min in :

“Please PaPa can’t I go out?’ ‘Soon little dove’ but he was distracted.  He smoked so much it was as if he was turning into ash..Rather than comforting her his movements and smells make her more anxious

So far I’m about a 1/3rd through the book and it’s fine. I like Marie-Laure as a character.  She is a blind girl and her father works at a museum.  To help her survive he builds models of the street and neighborhood.  There is also a famous diamond at the museum which has a curse that I am sure will come more into play.

There is a dual story of a boy named Werner who I am less engaged with.  He is getting training from the Nazzi’s but seems more interested in tinkering with radios than anything Hitler Youth is trying to teach him.  I think I may grow to love his character but so far I think he is so-so.
I’m not LOVING the book so far but I am enjoying it.  Maybe I’m not really in the mood for a WW2 book and perhaps I was hoping it would be a bit more like The Book Thief than it really is.  But I am enjoying it and curious to see what happens to Werner and Marie-Laure.
