My Cotton Bunny Box August

So this month I am having a ton of fun with subscription boxes.  I found a bunch of try it free/discount codes for boxes so I signed up for a bunch in August and will be posting reviews.  Subscription boxes are sent to you each month for a fee.  I’m a huge fan of birchbox which was the first subscription box company and they consistently have high quality boxes with a great points system for discounts if you rate products and write reviews.  So fun.

My first box came today even before August started. It is called the My Cotton bunny and it is a box to help women with their period each month.  I laughed when I first heard about it because on Big Bang Theory Sheldon suggests this idea to Penny.  Funny…

So here’s my review and unboxing!

  1. As a person with a ton of stuff that I don’t need I can hardly claim to be a minimalist. However, it is something I’m working on right now. I downloaded this software that blocks all my shopping websites (except Amazon which I use for school too.) Therefore, the box idea doesn’t appeal to me at all cause it gets in the way of that goal. That being said I think this box would actually be great for a daughter that’s nervous about their period. Dr. Hudson would always talk about how periods are girls rite of passage into womanhood, and yet they are thought of as completely awful. I’m afraid I only think of my period as completely stupid, and so I haven’t been a good influence on younger girls that way. But I think it would be good if we put a positive spin on it. Although, I think that it would be better in the long term if we found a new rite of passage for girls altogether that isn’t rooted in biology. Anyhoo, long story short I’m not interested in any boxes but I would sign my daughter up for this if her period was starting.
Also I’m actually ordering a mooncup/goddesscup. I hope I can get it to work. I hear it takes a while to get used to. But it is reusable and thus a hugeeee money saver. You just boil it in hot water at the end of your period and then you can use it for your next one. I’m very excited! I know a few people have found them too painful/messy, but the majority of women online seem to love them, so I hope that works out!

    1. Thanks for your comment. Good luck! I’ve heard of the cups but I think as a swimmer I really only have 1 option for my period. It seems to me that you can’t help but make biology a rite of passage. It’s such a big change and means so much as far as womanhood/motherhood. I think the best we can do is make it as pleasant as possible. Hopefully we have at least gotten rid of some of the period old wives tales that scared girls (like if you are on your period you’ll attract sharks and wild animals…Sigh).
I guess I’ve always had an affinity for the mail and things that come in the mail. Subscription boxes are like Christmas every day but I get the minimalism. It’s been a great thing for my blog and I’m grateful for the samples I got to review. A lot of fun. I’m probably going to keep 4 or 5 of them. There are so many on every topic you could think of its amazing. Its certainly not something required. Just for fun.

    1. Plus the nice thing about my cotton bunny is it is something you have to buy anyway, so aside from a little extra gift it doesn’t add much. The September box just came and I loved it! A little journal and 2 glitter pens, some tea and tampons. Perfect.
